Sightseeing - Mid-Levels Escalator

This is the world's longest outdoor covered escalator, at over 800 metres (2,600 ft). Completed in 1993, the system of escalators and moving sidewalks was the urban planning solution to traffic congestion. The escalators connect Mid-levels residents to the Central and Sheung Wan business areas through a vertical climb of 135 feet. All along the escalators trendy areas with galleries, restaurants and shops have popped up due to a continuing movement towards rapid gentrification. For tourists, the escalators provide meeting places with sure bets for entertainment, while for residents the system is a lifestyle.

Downhill: 6am-10am. Uphill: 10.20am-midnight.
