Visas
The majority of visitors to Hong Kong are allowed to enter without a visa and stay
for anywhere between seven days to six months, depending on nationality. Most entry is
granted for 90 days. A valid passport is required.
If you do require a visa, you must apply for one before you enter the Hong Kong Special
Administrative Region at your nearest Chinese consulate or embassy.
Visitors on a tourist visa are not permitted to take up employment or study without changing
the status of their visa. Those who wish to stay in Hong Kong longer than the visa-free period
must apply for a visa before travelling to Hong Kong.
For more information about visa requirements, contact your consulate or the Hong Kong Immigration
Department at (852) 2824 6111 or www.immd.gov.hk. A summary of entry requirements is provided at
the Immigration Department's website at
www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/hkvisas_4.htm.
Please see the Gateway to China section for information on visiting mainland China.
