Foot Therapy
Zoe Chan soothes her aching feet with a relaxing treat at the spa.
Apparently the foot is connected to the rest of the body-vital organs, the brain, eyes, stomach, and other parts whose names mean nothing to me. This is the beauty of reflexology. With an hour long treatment, such as the Herbal Foot Soak and Foot Massage at Sheer Spa (1/F, TheExcelsior Hotel, Causeway Bay. Tel: 3678 3830), you not only relieve tired feet, but also undergo ultimate relaxation and improve overall well being.
Entering Sheer Spa, I was promptly ushered into the foot massage room, made to sit down on a plump black leather chair and brought ginger tea and candies. A therapist entered with a wooden bucket of warm water and herbs, and I simply relaxed as my feet, recently removed from a pair of uncomfortable heels, soaked in the solution for ten minutes.
After some alone time, the therapist re-entered, elevated my legs and wrapped them in towels. Sprinkles of respite drifted through my feet, which left me wondering if I was just a bit too easily relaxed. The reflexology foot massage began with lotion and incorporated Chinese reflexology techniques. "You don't drink enough water!" the therapist told me after a few short strokes of pressure on the bottom of my foot. Well, she was right. I hadn't had a glass that day. Using acupressure points located in the feet, she could tell exactly where in the body I was under par.
The massage continued, and although the treatment was isolated to my feet, my whole body started to loosen up,and I felt energised. The therapist could tell, "Foot massages help your [blood to] circulate and make you stronger. Some people believe it prevents the flu". After the application of oil to my lower legs, the message ended with a peppermit scented warm towel and some firm taps to get me going. As I put back on my heels, I felt as if I was walking on clouds.
